Keynote Presentation: Yesterday’s Gone

Cybera Summit 2021

In 2021, Cybera planned their annual summit with a theme of “Moving to a New Normal”.

Creative Futures was invited to give the opening keynote exploring the possible futures of work over the next 10 years, and we shared highlights from research conducted in collaboration with the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship. Read more about this research.

Our Approach:

We provoked a conversation about the range of possible “new normals” that may exist, exploring ideas such as:

  • Post-Secondary Disrupted: What if post-secondary education was no longer the dominant choice after high school?

  • Workaholic extinction: What if everyone worked less in the future?

  • Degrowth: What if we valued environmental goals above economic goals in the future?

  • Climate Refugees: What if Canada welcomed climate refugees from all over the world?

  • Birth Strikers: What if women stopped having children until governments took more serious action on climate change?

  • AI Rights: What if rights typically reserved for humans were provided to AI technology?

Results:

Even though we had to pivot from an in-person to virtual approach, Creative Futures engaged the audience throughout the virtual presentation through an experiential future opening, polls and chat engagement.

Jessica Thornton and Heather Russek provided an engaging and meaningful dialogue at our conference on the future of work and what to expect in the years to come. They were able to tailor their message to our diverse audience and ensure the attendees were engaged and participating, even on a virtual platform. They were also able to pivot their presentation to accommodate changes that were brought on by the pandemic.
