School of Creative Arts in 2040

University of the Fraser Valley

The School of Creative Arts at the University of the Fraser Valley has a confirmed plan to build a multimedia performance lab. To ensure this new space is designed to reflect the changing post-secondary landscape, Creative Futures conducted a preliminary assessment of UFV’s creative arts infrastructure needs by 2040.

Our Approach:

  • Research and analysis on the possible futures of creative arts post-secondary education.

  • Interviews with UFV faculty and staff to understand current and future opportunities and challenges.

  • Identification of needs and opportunities for UFV infrastructure including imagining the future students in 2040 and other emerging technology, social, economic and environmental changes.

  • Collaboration with UFV faculty and staff to inform a 10-year roadmap to achieve the near-term and longer-term goals for the university.

  • Development of a report that summarizes the preliminary assessment and proposed next steps.

Results:

UFV has a preliminary assessment to share with senior management that outlines a clear path of activities over the next 10 years in order to activate a longer-term vision for the School of Creative Arts.

Creative Futures provided us with an outside perspective on our strengths and opportunities, and helped us clarify a range of dynamic possibilities for future directions. Heather and Jessica gave us a clear and flexible strategy for moving forward that took into account uncertainties and changes in media arts and performance that we can’t yet anticipate.
